Heather Lohmiller
I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in codependency. I work with individuals who prioritize the needs and desires of another person, often someone struggling with addiction. I support those who feel an irresistible urge to "fix" another's problems but sacrifice their own well-being in the process.

I grew up in the Midwest, where alcohol addiction was normalized. People in my family were unaware of the ways we tiptoed around the alcoholics in our lives. I grew up believing I was responsible for those who were not.

I married into the military and, in time, learned that, as in the Midwest, alcohol abuse was common. Alcohol was often used as a way to cope with the stresses of overwork and the aftermath of war. I spoke with many who kept secrets about addiction.
After raising four children, I attended graduate school with the goal of helping others who, like me, have been affected by another’s addiction. I earned a Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University, and I hold an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin. I completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and believe that every client benefits from a treatment plan that incorporates various therapeutic approaches.

I understand how hard it is to practice “tough love” and to let your loved one struggle with their addiction. As your therapist, I intend to support you as you learn to prioritize yourself, recognize and value your emotions, and make fulfilling decisions that leave you feeling empowered and balanced.
